LENNY A HIT! "MR. BRUCE" GARNERS GLOBAL ATTENTION

Original Press: April 2004

MR. BRUCE HAS AUDIENCES RAVING!

We are excited to announce that the Planc Productions presentation of Rob Foster's intriguing stage essay on comedian Lenny Bruce has not only overwhelmed peninsula theater-goers, but has charmed local critics, turned the heads of Bruce fans across the globe and even drawn the attention of one of Bruce's own contemporaries, Mr. Nat Hentoff!

Stunningly candid, this daring new show pulls Lenny Bruce back to the world of the living for one more hour, and places him on the witness stand to defend his life, with the audience as jury. Bruce's ongoing relevance to our own politically heated times is presented through the lens of his legal battles and emotional decline; related by the comedian himself, as portrayed by actor Jody Gilmore who channels Lenny to an uncanny degree.

The result is a heart-wrenching roller coaster ride in which the iconoclast comic and societal gadfly Bruce retraces--and possibly rethinks--the steps of his life; along the way going head-to-head with interviewer Nat Hentoff (played by Foster), losing his temper a few times and, of course, recreating moments from his legendary routines, including "Religions, Inc.," "To Is A Preposition, Come Is A Verb" and others.

"This is about as close to a live performance by Lenny Bruce as anyone in 2004 will experience."
-- Rob Foster, author, director

"Mr. Bruce, Do You Swear?" is a must-see for anyone who cherishes our First Ammendment right, and freedom in general... especially now, as Free Speech and the definition of decency are again taking center-stage in American headlines.
